Hello Smyrna. This is the first full week of August and it is looking to be simply beautiful. The new school year is approaching for young and old alike so we need to squeeze from these last halcyon days all we can before the drudgery of life seizes us in its vice like grip.

The Smyrna town government has a few meetings of note.
I can easily recommend a visit to the beautification committee. I was surprised at how busy they were with multiple projects and ideas being thrown about. This is a true 'working' committee. The beer board on the other hand should be avoided until they start offering free samples. A few Sam Adams would get more people involved in my opinion...and make the town government a more welcoming institution.

There had been a Storm Water advisory committee meeting scheduled, but it has been moved to Thursday of next week.

Remember that there will be a school supply giveaway later this week. The economy and rising prices have made it hard on everyone.

In local events there is a photograph exhibit occuring all of the month of August.
Historic Preservation Photograph Exhibit

Finally the big event this week. The Night Out against crime
Smyrna To Join Cities Nationwide for "America's National Night Out Against Crime"

It's called the Neighborhood Watch event of the year, when the Town of Smyrna joins forces with thousands of other communities nationwide to give crime and drugs a going away party. National Night Out 2008 will be held on Tuesday, August 5th at Lee Victory Recreation Park from 5pm to 8pm.

Neighborhood Watch groups throughout Smyrna will show their stand against crime on Tuesday, August 5th. Neighborhood Watch groups all across the country unite on the first Tuesday of August each year to celebrate National Night Out. The purpose is to forge active crime prevention efforts in neighborhoods, strengthen community-police partnerships, develop better social and communication ties among neighbors, and to discuss and develop solutions to neighborhood issues.
This is one I can easily recommend you go to, and enjoy.

We also would like to say "Welcome back" to Mark from your hiatus from this great town.

Welcome back, Mark, for sure.

Smyrna beats Lavergne ANY day of the year.

(Is that hate speech? Please - don't boot me!)
