Layoffs in town

Companies are tightening their belts and that means closings and layoffs. Another company is laying off in Smyrna.
Tower Automotive has laid off 55 people from its Smyrna facility, according to documents filed with the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce.

The auto parts manufacturer supplies the Nissan North America manufacturing facility in Smyrna, which recently offered buyouts to its employees and announced it would be reducing production. Despite the layoffs, the facility will remain open according to Tower Automotive spokesman Joe Kirik.
The article said layoffs were effective August 1st.
