I was right and I wish I wasn't

A couple of weeks ago I noticed a 'For Sale' sign in the windows of Swafford Sporting Goods. My wife and I debated wheather it meant "For Sale" the property or "For Sale" the store entity.

Sadly it looks like it might have been a belated attempt to save the store by having new blood take it over as it has announced its closing.
But nearly four years later, Swafford says he’s closing up the shop due to the struggling economy, the growing number of chain stores and lack of business.

The store’s last day will be Friday.
......
“It has been a losing situation the whole time. It’s been a downhill ride,” he said. “I haven’t had a paycheck since I left the sheriff’s department.”
You hear statistics on how many small businesses close down in the first few years, but add into that an economy that has every one fearing the wolves at the door, and you get this.

That's really a shame. Mr. Swafford is a very nice guy. I'm not a sports aficionado but I have stopped in and chatted with him on a few occasions. I hope he finds a profitable new venture in the near future.

It's another "sign of the times" we are living in. Wayne Swafford has operated a nice mom & pop small business and contributed to this great community. I wish Wayne the best!
