Music at the Mill- The first band

This information was sent out by Scott Stern, the publicist for the Nick Carver Band and I thought you might like to know who will be playing.
NICK CARVER BAND TO KICK OFF SMYRNA “MUSIC AT THE MILL”

SMYRNA, TENN. – Murfreesboro’s Nick Carver Band will kick off the opening concert of Smyrna’s new summer concert series, “Music at the Mill,” on Friday, May 21 at 6:30 PM in Gregory Hill Park. This open-air concert is free and open to the public. Gregory Hill Park is located at 390 Enon Springs Road, Smyrna, Tenn. 37167, and food vendors will be onsite. The “Music at the Mill” concert series is produced by the Smyrna Parks and Recreation Department, and sponsored by the Smyrna Independent Merchants Association.

In a little over one year’s time, the Nick Carver Band has become one of the most popular cover bands in Middle Tennessee, performing Classic Rock, Southern Rock, and Country Music favorites while also serving up a dose of original music. Fronted by lead singer Nick Carver, the band has performed at Nashville musical landmarks such as Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge, the Wildhorse Saloon, and Cadillac Ranch; as well as clubs in Murfreesboro, Franklin, Lebanon, Manchester, Shelbyville, and more.

“With their musical talent and energetic performance-style, the Nick Carver Band is a perfect choice to launch our new ‘Music at the Mill’ summer concert series” said Jeff Marler, Athletic Coordinator, Town of Smyrna Parks and Recreation.

“We are excited to make our Smyrna debut by opening the ‘Music at the Mill” free concert series,” said Carver. “We hope everyone will bring their friends and family out to Gregory Hill Park for an evening of music, dancing, and celebration.”

In addition to Carver, the Nick Carver Band is comprised of drummer Mark Cardwell, bass guitarist Taylor Lonardo, fiddler Rob Mineo, keyboardist Michael Sharp, and lead guitarist Jason Tyler.
You can also drop by their Facebook page.

Music at the Mill

SIMA, the Smyrna Independent Merchants Association is sponsoring Music at the Mill this summer. A sort of companion to Movies in the park I feel. Here is the flyer page from the parks and recreation website with information for those interested.

Airport art show cancelled

The airport art show that Christina Cudworth was working so hard for has been put on semi-permanent hold by the airport.

From the bad news email
As John and I have reviewed your proposal, we realize that Art in Smyrna Airport could potentially be quite an undertaking. We also realize that we do not have the mechanism in place to proceed at this time. All of our Airport work is governed by an Airport Master Plan that’s approved by the Federal Aviation Administration and the TN Division of Aeronautics. I’ve researched a number of airports and how they handle their art showcases. All of them have an Airport Arts Master Plan (Plan) that delves into the community history, vision and passion, and the art exhibited is a reflection of the community. We feel that our own exhibits should do the same.

Over the next months we hope to draft a Plan for consideration by our Board of Commissioners. We plan to enlist the help of MTSU’s aviation department to assist with writing/designing this Plan. While I would not presume to know how our Board will react to Airport Arts, I would expect them to appoint members to an Arts Commission who would then implement the various facets of the Master Plan.
They included this line.
We believe a well-thought-out Master Plan is the best way to set goals and methods to achieve them so that our community can be as proud of our art exhibits as they are Smyrna Airport.
A government bureaucracy just cannot do something right, they need a master plan to know it is right.

Well I am greatly disappointed and it is only midweek.

New offering from 'This is Smyrna'

Craigslist is a wonderful tool and a great example in what the Internet can offer people. To make it a hint easier to use I have gone and added to the left a separate section titled "Smyrna Craigslist" with search link results already programed in. If you wish to find what is for sale in Smyrna just click on the 'items for sale' link and the Smyrna results will come up, so will items in the 'free' link, and job openings and people looking for jobs or offering services.

This way you do not have to go through several pages of clicks to get to the Smyrna specific results that would help you the most.

I hope this helps you and if you find another Craigslist search result you feel should be added please drop me a line.

Wow.....this is shocking

I follow the reported police reports in the local newspapers and have noticed the larger crimes that have recently occurred. The robbery of the Raza Latina to the daring ATM robbery. The problem with growing bigger as a town is that the crimes grow bigger and more violent.

I'm glad the reporter mentioned that the employee was back at work.

Burned BBQ

Bad news Smyrna.
"Around 2:45 p.m., fire crews responded to Bob’s Barbecue on Enon Springs Road West. Fire Chief Bill Culbertson said a grease fire got out of control in the rear portion of the kitchen.
It could cost up to $60,000 to repair is they need to tear down the wall.

We lose the BBQ festival and now this. I smell a conspiracy.

Thanks to Sergio of Dreaming Ink Tattoo for the photograph.

Final county candidates

The deadline has past and the final candidates have been listed on the election commission website.
3
WILL JORDAN
JAKE ROBINSON

9
STEVE SANDLIN

10
TONY CAMPBELL
ANTHONY JOHNSON
BRAD TURNER

11
RHONDA P. ALLEN
CHRIS DEAL
TERRY L. WARD

12
RICK HALL
ROBERT NEW
ROBERT STEVENS
I will admit I was surprised at the last minute petitions of Tony Campbell for 10, Terry Ward for 11 and Robert New for 12th district. They waited until the last three days to get their petitions, and file to run.

Also we have in our town the position of court clerk to vote on.
TERRY D. DAVENPORT
LISA K R WAGNER
That's not all. We have school board and road board...but. I will admit a lack of knowledge on who the road board and school board candidates are as I cannot find a map of the districts. I do not even know who represents my area. The election commission website is a bit bare in a few important areas in my view.
