Summer film fun

I just heard back from the Malco company and Smyrna is one of the participating theaters that are having a summer of film fun for the kids and their parents.

At $2 a person, this is a great deal on some classic kid films.

Free is good

This coming Sunday evening you have the chance for some good music in the park, just down the road in Murfreesboro. This event is of the Tennessee Valley Winds.

 Friends of the Greenway

Weekend activities for the whole family.

Hansel and Gretel is just a story, so don't get any ideas about leaving your kids at the Ceders of Lebanon state park...even if they deserve it. This is just good advice.

But....They do have some fun things scheduled for this weekend if you're up for it. A Wildflower Festival.
Cedar Glade Flower Hike via Motorcade or TDEC Bus—Leave from parking lot in front of Nature Center & next to Cedar Forest Lodge.
9:00—11:30 am Caravan to Cedar Forest glade (learn from experts about cedar glade plants & glade natural history) Milo Pyne, Sunny Fleming, Darel Hess, Dennis Horn
2:30—5:00 pm Caravan to Cedar Forest glade (learn from experts about cedar glade plants & glade natural history) Milo Pyne, Sunny Fleming, Darel Hess,
Dennis Horn
This and much more information is in the images included, or you can view it in PDF form.

They even have a Saturday meeting at 2:00—3:00 on Bee-Keeping in TN, Rod Vesterfelt will be the host for this event. Do you know that if you have a bees nest den chamber hive, you need to have it registered with the state? How the heck do you brand all those little bees? Sounds cruel to me.

Consignment sale for a cause in May

The people at Crafters' Exchange (FB LINK)have a consignment sale to support the Fisher House. (Wow. Four links in one sentence).
The Tennessee Fisher House Foundation, Inc. is dedicated to financial, volunteer and emotional support for the residents of the Fisher House located at the Tennessee Valley Healthcare System in Murfreesboro and programs of the Fisher House Foundation. This “home away from home” enables family members to be close to a loved one at the most stressful time – during hospitalization for a disease, illness or injury. The program recognizes the special sacrifices of our men and women in uniform and their families and the hardships of military service by meeting a humanitarian need beyond that normally provided by the Department of Defense and Department of Veteran Affairs.

The Tennessee Fisher House is located on Alvin C. York VA Medical Center Campus, 3400 Lebanon Pike, Murfreesboro, TN.
The Crafters' Exchange Consignment Sale is free and open to the public. It is being held at the Lane Agri-park. It is open from May 12 at 9:30 AM to May 14 at 3 PM. Yes that does look like it is open for 53 1/2 hours straight, so recheck the time before you go.

We are excited to announce that for this spring sale, the fundraiser we are doing will be for the Fisher House. We are excited to be working with them to raise funds and to donate wish list items to their house in Murfreesboro. A Fisher House is “a home away from home” for families of patients receiving medical care at major military and VA medical centers. To find out more about the Fisher House, check out their website http://www.tennesseefisherhouse.org/ I will post final details about the fundraiser as soon as it's finalized.

Personal request

I have a want, not a need. I have come into a large amount of strawberries and instead of just freezing them, I plan on making some strawberry wine. The basic kits are not totally outrageous cost wise, but every penny counts. Does anyone out there have any carboys, primary fermentation buckets, siphons and such? I'm hedging my bet here. If I fail spectacularly at this, I can at least be happy I did not invest a lot into the effort. I'm looking for people that might have done this in the past and no longer do it, but they still have the basic setup.

Desserts for Dach

This is a good cause and if you have time, please drop by. Even if you don't win anything at the auction, you can still help a family that is trying to do the right thing in this world.

Desserts for Dach is a benefit to help bring Dacheley Afaayo home to the Dand family. Join us for an evening of family fun, desserts and shopping on Friday April 22nd from 6pm until 9pm in downtown Smyrna. Winners of the silent auction will be announced at 8:45pm. Donations accepted at the door for entry. We hope to see you there!
