Shop local

SIMA wants you to think of them in thesse economic times, and to think locally.
The Smyrna independent Merchants Association is urging the citizens of Smyrna to unchain themselves on Nov. 21—to do any business they plan to do on that day only at local independent businesses. Smyrna Unchained! is part of America Unchained, a national campaign of the American Business Alliance.

I don't have a problem shopping "local," but have a couple of issues here:

- Should I buy local if the prices are not competitive?
- If Wal-Mart went out of business, how many local people would lose their jobs? What about Subway Sandwiches, wich are usually locally owned and operated?

There are reasons to shop locally (a local computer tech is going to do a better job at a better price than geek squad, for example), but local companies need to compete for business the same way national companies do.
