Captain Jeff Kuss USMC Memorial

The Town of Smyrna is saddened by the passing of Volunteer Chaplain Leonard Rader. Our prayers are with his wife, Linda, and the rest of the Rader Family.

The Smyrna Police Department regrets to inform everyone that last night Volunteer Chaplain Leonard Rader passed away after a valiant struggle with cancer. Chaplain Rader had been serving as a Volunteer Chaplain for almost 8 years. In that 8 years Chaplain Rader had been called out numerous times to give the news to someone that a loved one had passed away and Chaplain Rader met the emotional and spiritual needs of many families that were struggling with the loss of a loved one. Chaplain Rader had often volunteered his services to citizens that were in need of a pastor for a wedding or a funeral. And Chaplain Rader counseled many police officers, dispatchers, and other employees as they dealt with their own personal crisis. To Chaplain Rader’s wife Linda and the rest of his family please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers as you deal with your loss. The members of the Smyrna Police Department are very proud to have served alongside a wonderful public servant such as Leonard Rader. We miss you already Chaplain.

Speed Dating with Books

Speed Dating with Books

Thursday, September 8, 2016 at 7 PM - 8 PM CDT
Linebaugh Public Library System
105 W Vine St, Murfreesboro, TN 37130-3573

Thought about Speed Dating? Try it with Books at Linebaugh Public Library!

Linebaugh Public Library is hosting a fun evening for book lovers on Thursday, September 8, at 7 p.m. with a new twist to speed dating. Tables will be set up for participants to sit across from each other as questions are asked about different book types and what they like to read.

As the bell rings, people will move, allowing everyone a chance to get new insights on book titles and topics. As friends are made and suggestions given, participants will have a gift pen and notepad to write down what they’re learning and make a reading list for the days to come.

Linebaugh Branch Librarian Carol Ghattas says: “It’s a fun way to get to know new people in our community and share a common love of books and reading at the same time. We will have several from our library book and writers groups attending, so it will also be a great time to get connected with these groups as well.”

Friends of Linebaugh will be providing light refreshments as well as a "blind date" for each participant--a wrapped book to take home and enjoy. Just another fun way to widen your reading horizons.

Bring a friend and come for a free, fun evening of all things books!

Gregory Mill Park: A Great Place For Family Outings

    Gregory Mill Park
    Park Hours: 7:00am - 9:30pm
(subject to close due to inclement weather)
    Splash Pad Hours: Monday-Thursday, 11:00am - 6:00pm
                                  Friday-Sunday, 10:00am - 6:00pm

    Max Capacity at Shelter: 50

This 48 acre park is leased from the United States Corps of Engineers and is best known for the popular splash pad. After obtaining a lease for the property in 2004 the town renovated and developed this park by adding a new shelter, new restrooms, additional parking, lighting and a splash pad. A .45 mile walking trail, additional restrooms and fencing were constructed after the June 2006 grand opening in order to better serve the frequently visited park.

The shelter, named after the late Bobby Campbell, is a popular place for groups wanting to enjoy this scenic park. Mr. Campbell was instrumental in developing and maintaining many parks and town facilities during his time as a town employee. Gregory Mill Park also connects to the greenway system via sidewalks which run throughout the town.

    Monday, July 3, 2017

    Hello everyone!
I hope all is well with you and your families. The mantle has been passed to a new admin as you all well know. My family has lived and worked in Tennessee for over 40 years and Smyrna for over 10 years now. We love the environment, the people and the atmosphere in our beloved city.  Given this, I will do my personal best to maintain the high standards that have been set and continue to be a useful resource for our community.

    Sincerely,
    Jarvis Sheffield

It has been fun and I hope the site keep going for a long time.

The new administrator will introduce their self in a bit.
