HELP US LOCATE/IDENTIFY THIS ARMED ROBBERY SUSPECT
On 1/1/17 at approximately 0415, the Mapco at 1883 Almaville Rd, was robbed at gunpoint by a thin black male described to be in his late 30’s or early 40’s. The suspect was wearing blue jeans, a black shirt and a fur lined hat with ear flaps. The suspect waited until the cash register was open and produced a small black handgun and attempted to grab cash from the drawer. A second suspect waited in the parking lot and was driving what was described as a green compact truck, possibly a mid 90’s Chevy S-10. The vehicle was last seen entering east bound I-24.
At approximately 0440, individuals believed to be the same suspects robbed the A+ Exxon at 1209 Fortress Dr. in Murfreesboro. A suspect matching the description of the one in Smyrna again produced a gun and attempted to grab cash from the register. He did exit the store with stolen beer. In this crime, the suspect was accompanied by another black male described as being “heavy set”. Both men left in what is described as a green Chevy S-10.

Being prepared
I have mentioned here before that I feel like most families should have a 72 pack ready in case they need to leave home fast. The fires in Gatlinberg and the Chemical Fire in Murfreesboro are two clear and local examples of finding yourself having to leave your house fast.
This year for Xmas my wife and I received from my inlaws 2 well made pre-packaged 72 hour kits. I thought I would share them here so you can see what they look like.
Here is how they come packaged. This is an Emergency Essentials Personal 72-Hour Emergency Kit with MREs. I am not going to link to it so you don't think I am going to get referral money. Just do a basic google search for it if you are interested.
When you open the box, right on top is a backpack to put it all in.
Below is what resides under the backpack.
Laid out so you can get a better idea of the items, (List included at bottom)
Here are the backpacks (we had two boxes) fully loaded and ready to go, and hopefully never be needed.
Official list from the main website.
(9) - MRE Entrée
(9) - MRE Side Dish
(9) - Water Pouch
(3) - Hand & Body Warmer
(1) - Emergency Poncho
(1) - Emergency Blanket
(1) - Tube Tent
(1) - Waterproof Matches
(9) - Utensil & Accessory Pack
(9) - MRE Heater
(1) - Whistle with Lanyard
(1) - Lightstick
(1) - 100-Hour Candle
(1) - Toilet Paper
(1) - One person First Aid Kit
(1) - Disposable Toothbrush
(1) - Small Bar Soap
(1) - Disposable Razor
(3) - Sanitary Napkin
(1) - Comb
(1) - Tissue Pack
(1) - Large Backpack
Now there are already many things my wife and I feel need to be added for us specifically. I like the candle, but would rather have a good flashlight, I think a basic pocketknife is needed, and my wife wants a radio for each. We also say several pairs of socks, and a spare shirt/shorts are needed. The basic idea is that you use this to build on.
This pack costs $69.99, and if you look around you might find one cheaper or one that suits you better.

Help!
What does the following groups have in common?
Maybe our dear neighbor LaVergne could save us over the next month. It is not much further than many points in Smyrna to visit.
While they do have some Jazzercise classes and a Zumba classes on their calendar, these are regular weekly events and not the BIG EVENTS that could save us from these barren days that stretch into the future.
So no. I have not stopped posting events here, there just isn't any events.
If you know of something going on please...oh please, message me so I can share.
Historic Sam Davis Home and PlantationOn their individual facebook pages under events, they have pretty much the same message.
Sam Davis Lodge #661 Free and Accepted Masons
Friends of Smyrna Library
Smyrna Lions Club
Rotary Club Smyrna, TN
Smyrna, TN Parks and Recreation
Smyrna-LaVergne Food Bank
Town of Smyrna, TN - Local Government does not have any upcoming events.
Historic Sam Davis Home and Plantation does not have any upcoming events. We have entered the post holiday doldrums that I remember from last year. It really is a period where nothing is going on. Even the normal Linebaugh Public Library System, a place of great activities, only had three items listed, and one of them is just an alert that they will be closing for a day, and the other two are in Murfreesboro.
