Need a dentist?

I was having a problem with one of my back teeth and it was bothering me really bad this past week so I called my dentist, Dr. Gurley. I was set up an appointment for this morning after calling yesterday. I arrived a little before before and was taken right in. Dr. Gurley came right in and began to work on my back tooth and within 10 minutes the tooth was out. The gang there was bright and cheerful this morning and The nice lady, Kenny is always so sweet to me when I go in. If you need to see a dentist please check them out on Hazelwood Dr. Smyrna Dental Group!

Going out of business

I like to note new small businesses, but sometimes a store going out of business needs to be noted. Outlet Furniture Store on Front street is closing down and has items marked for sale. I talked to the owner and she said her daily trip from Franklin and many other reasons have lead to the need to close down.

If you're in need of a couch, table, or chairs, drop by and see what they have for sale.

Another restaurant coming....

I found out this morning that another restaurant is coming to town and it's going to be on the corner of Quecreek and Sam Ridley Pkwy(in front of the Bowling center). I have seen the sign stating restaurant tenant soon but now know what is coming. It's going to be a Whitt's BBQ. This is good since there are alot of warehouses in the area including the new Taylor Farms across the street from this new place to grab lunch! Let's all welcome Whitt's when they open. They havent started breaking ground just yet but I will let everyone know when they do!! Also next door to Thorton's there is a sign stating shopping center coming soon. This part of town is growing just like the other part of town. Yippee!!

It's here

The flu shots that many have been getting will now be put to the test as Rutherford county is experiencing an influenza outbreak.
Influenza is gripping Rutherford County and doctors at StoneCrest Medical Center in Smyrna are calling in at “outbreak.”

“On average we see 120 patients a day,” said StoneCrest Medical Center Dr. Angeline Burnetto. “Our numbers are higher now because so many people are sick and I would say easily, a third of our patients are testing positive for the flu.”
It is still not to late to get your shots if you need them.

Theft

Some people want to get involved. They want to live in a better community and they go about doing something about it. Some work with children, some help social services like the food bank, and some plant trees.

Rene Drain is one such person and through the town's Beautification Committee she has worked on several projects. One is the building of trail head projects. One was in the Sharp Springs Natural Area and in November she plants, dug, and made a nice area for people to visit.

Sadly some total lowlife's went and messed with it.
Five trees were recently stolen from a trailhead at Sharp Springs Natural Area on Espey Drive.

It's not a new problem, but disappoints those involved with the upkeep and maintenance of the parks system.
.....
Rene Drain serves on the town's Beautification Committee and has worked to get companies to sponsor the Smyrna Greenway's seven trailheads by donating plants and supplies. She noticed the damage when she drove out to check on the sites a couple of weeks ago.

"I discovered that someone has stolen five very nice trees right up out of the ground. Three of them were nice blue spruce trees. It makes me very mad," she said, adding that the trailhead was planted in November.
I saw her one day digging the holes and planting plants there, and her efforts to make a better community were obvious.

For every person working to make a community better, there seems to be two working against them.

A warning system

I was at work on Tuesday night when the weather was turning bad and yes it did get bad around2am with the rain coming down sideways and the wind blowing so hard that the trash cans outside the bowling center blew into the parking lot. I know from the news repports earlier in the night that the cities of Franklin and Nashville had their tornado sirens going off during the first wave of storms. I want to ask our city officals why dont we have sirens here in our city? This could save lives if we had something like what happened in Macon county. We could get a grant or something to help with the cost. I dont think we, the citizens would mind paying alittle something if it was to help save lives in the future. We are now considered the new tornado alley and it does seem that every year the storms are getting worse than the years before. I ask other citizens if you think we do need something like this in our growing city?

Blogger issues

As of right now the spell check and quote function are not working. The spell check has not worked for a week plus, adn the quote function has died today.

If this continues I may go to wordpress.

Pry It From My Cold, Dead Hands

To arms! To arms. The fine state of Tennessee may be invaded by those damned Georgians if they have there way.

A resolution in Georgia's legislature proposes to move the Tennessee-Georgia boundary about a mile to the north of where it now lies,.....

The proposal elicited instant ridicule from residents of the area on Thursday, as well as tongue-in-cheek saber rattling from Tennessee lawmakers.
............
The resolution, which has passed early hurdles but has not received final passage, claims that the boundary was erroneously surveyed in 1818 and that Georgia has never accepted it. The resolution calls for the creation of a "Georgia-Tennessee Boundary Line Commission" that would perform joint surveys and change the line to the "definite and true" boundary line: exactly following the 35th parallel.

"We're not talking about sucking it dry," said Rep. Harry Geisinger, a Republican who sponsored the resolution in the Georgia House. "We're talking about augmenting some water needs, and as you know, the Tennessee has got plenty of water in it."

Politics gets mean

A person in Nashville decided to make a statement. I wonder how long till codes shuts them down.

"This is a huge LED sign belonging to Interstate AC Service in Nashville, TN. This sign overlooks I-40 westbound as it approaches downtown Nashville."

direct linkage

I don't agree or disagree with this sign, I just like the fact that it can be openly said.

Tennessee early voting and getting ripped off.

I was talking to a friend last night about this week's column and specifically Fred Thompson's campaign.

I made a comment that a fundamental flaw in early voting is that a vote for Thompson that someone in Smyrna might have made is now a wasted vote as he has withdrawn. I suggested a compromise that when you vote early in a primary you can vote for two or three, and if your initial pick withdraws the next one will get your vote..and so-forth. I luckily voted for one who is still in the race, but unlikely to win. Ones who voted for Thompson, or Edwards has had their vote nulified.

NOTE: Bad spelling is due to the fact that spell check has not worked on blogger for three days for me.
