The Rotary Club, an international service organization with 1.2 million members in 33,000 clubs worldwide, got its start in Smyrna and La Vergne because one man was on a mission, the charter members explained in the interview. William M. McNeil, a member of the Murfreesboro Rotary Club, went to each prominent business here, sat down with their owners and managers and asked them to help him start a new chapter of the club. The Rotary club is well known for their yearly fish fry that brings in several hundred thousand dollars for our community.
.....
McNeil kept going until he had 36 members by the time the Smyrna Rotary Club was chartered on March 22, 1971. The club had its first meeting on April 24, 1971 at the Stones River Country Club with McNeil as the group's first president.

Smyrna A.M. column
My column is out for the week and it tells the story of when I was a young teenage condom pusher.
Enjoy the read.
Enjoy the read.

Ban it
A senator is attempting to ban sweet foods in public schools, and I may surprise many by being for it.
Why? Because it really is good for the children, but in ways the government would never suspect, or desire. This ban will be a very educational experience for the children. A true lesson is small business economics.Helping create the next generation of business leaders one ban at a time.
There is a saying that a true black market can only exist when an item is over regulated. A government enforced ban is the best example of an over regulated market that can be found.
Into this void of supply will step children with an entrepreneurial spirit. A desire to make money. The lessons they learn will be better then any time spent reading economics 101 in a classroom. Free marketers at their best.

Smyrna AM link
I created a Smyrna AM image to add to the right hand column. What do you all think of it?

I could not find a premade image, or logo, so decided to make one myself..
Looks good?
update:
Taylor Loyal and an anony commenter gave a premade image that is the proper size for linkage.

Will use that instead. Although I think mine is prettier.

Request for questions
With hat in hand I come before the readers of my blog with a question, and a request that I be forgiven for the lateness of this post. I was supposed to post this last week, but things in my life went from hectic, to frantic.
Here goes.
3pm Thursday of this week the Smyrna radio show will be broadcast from in front of the offices of Smyrna A.M.. In attendence will be Smyrna A.M. editor Taylor Loyal, and 11th district county commissioner Mike Sparks.
Mike would like to answer questions that you have on Smyrna and its future. To get them answered on air please email them to Taylor Loyal by Thursday.
If time allows I'm even going to try to be there.
***tagged to stay at the top till thursday***

Happy birthday
This month the This is Smyrna, TN. website turns two.
Started in June 2005, it had only three posts the first month. Thanks to M for starting this website and helping us get to know each other better. I've met some great people through blogger meet ups, and this website was even the item that helped me into my Smyrna A.M. column that I have now.
Two? Does that mean we can now enter "the terrible twos"?
Happy birthday to all of our contributors, and all of the ones that may join us in the future.

The new Smyrna A.M. blog
The Smyrna A.M. has set up a blog of sorts. For items that a fast turnaround is best, they will be posted here at Smyrna Small Talk. Right now it includes an introduction from our local editor, and a bit I'm happy about. Someone wrote to the editor and said how WRONG I was on one column. Yippee! Someone dislikes my stuff.
I am a bit surprised. I set up an email account so people who disagree, or agree with me could email me direct. Instead they sent their letter to the editor.
Oh well.

Smyrna A.M.
Smyrna A.M. has a new editor.
I would like to extend a big blogger welcome to Taylor Loyal, our new neighbor.
While he currently lives in Nashville, he is planning on moving to Smyrna.
I have yet to see him, but found that we both were raised in Owensboro Kentucky. He better like Moonlite Bar-B-Q, or there could be problems. That's all I have to say.
He has been invited to the blogger get together, so you all may get to see him tomorrow.

Smyrna A.M.
The first online edition of Smyrna A.M. is up and ready to be read.
The introductory article by Jimmy Hart can be found here..
I am surprised to see the Smyrna A.M. site hosted by the Tennessean and not the Daily News Journal. Although both are Gannett owned companies.

The introductory article by Jimmy Hart can be found here..
As we stated on the cover of today’s print edition, “We’re growing with you!”With the growth of our city I'm glad to see something like this.
We’re excited about this tremendous opportunity to produce a newspaper and Web site exclusively focused on one of Middle Tennessee’s fastest growing towns.
But I certainly don’t have to remind most of you how quickly your community is changing. The evidence surrounds you daily, from the constant dirt-moving and shaking along Sam Ridley Parkway to a YMCA that’s already bursting at the seams to the recently announced plans to build another Publix here as well as a Smyrna location of the legendary Murfreesboro eatery, Demos’.
