The Rotary Club, an international service organization with 1.2 million members in 33,000 clubs worldwide, got its start in Smyrna and La Vergne because one man was on a mission, the charter members explained in the interview. William M. McNeil, a member of the Murfreesboro Rotary Club, went to each prominent business here, sat down with their owners and managers and asked them to help him start a new chapter of the club.The Rotary club is well known for their yearly fish fry that brings in several hundred thousand dollars for our community.

McNeil kept going until he had 36 members by the time the Smyrna Rotary Club was chartered on March 22, 1971. The club had its first meeting on April 24, 1971 at the Stones River Country Club with McNeil as the group's first president.
Our mission is to be a useful resource for the city of Smyrna, TN and surrounding areas.
