The internet has given birth to many new ideas that have revolutionized commerce and finances. Sites like GoFundMe, KickStarter, Microloans and in some cases even free. The recent success of 'pay what you want' worked well for Radiohead and Louis CK.
There is a new movement that is gaining some traction online and a local group has been formed.
Buy Nothing
Post anything you’d like to give away, lend, or share amongst neighbors. Ask for anything you’d like to receive for free or borrow. Keep it legal. Keep it civil. No buying or selling, no trades or bartering, we’re strictly a gift economy.
Will it work here? No idea, but if you're up to it you can give it a try.
The local group has set up a FaceBook page for Smyrna, and they asked if I would share this with you. I hope this takes off like the Freecycle groups did once.
