TWO POLICE ALERTS TODAY

ALERT 1

FATALITY SUSPECT IDENTIFIED – WARRANTS ON FILE
On July 10, 2016, Smyrna Police Department investigated a fatal hit-and- run accident. The victim was identified as 29 year old Elise Denton, who was struck by another vehicle while riding her Honda Scooter on South Lowry Street near the Nissan overpass. Denton’s body was left behind in the roadway as the suspect left the scene and continued north bound on Lowry Street.
According to witness statements, the suspect vehicle dragged Denton’s scooter for approximately one quarter of a mile before the driver stopped, got out and removed the wreckage from underneath the vehicle. The driver then fled the vicinity and was last seen in the area of Eastland Drive and Stewart Drive in Smyrna.
Based on a tip, the SPD Criminal Investigations Division recovered the suspect vehicle on July 12, 2016. The investigation conducted by SPD, along with the assistance of the Rutherford County District Attorney’s office, has identified the suspect as 25 year old Cortney Barrett of Murfreesboro, TN.
A warrant for Barrett’s arrest has been issued. She is being charged with Leaving the Scene of an Accident Resulting in Death. Other charges are pending. Anyone with information regarding this incident should contact the Smyrna Police Department at 615-459-6644.

ALERT 2

Sometime between 7/13/16 and 7/14/16 the below shown individuals took a car from the movie theater in Smyrna. They went to several locations in Murfreesboro and used stolen credit/debit cards. Anyone with information on the identity of these two individuals is asked to contact Detective Allan Nabours with the Smyrna Police Department at (615) 267-5434.

These people are not guilty of course, but the police are seeking them out.
