He's back

The same looking guy that robbed the Hot Spot tanning business in July has hit another tanning site in Smyrna. We really need to take this guy down people.
WE NEED YOUR HELP LOCATING AN ARMED ROBBERY SUSPECT

On August 28, 2011, around 7:45 pm, the Hollywood Tan business on Sam Ridley Parkway was robbed. The suspect entered the business, pulled a plastic bag from his front pocket and told the two female employees that he "suggests they empty the cash register and fill the bag with cash." The suspect implied he had a gun, but never presented an actual weapon. The two employees complied and the suspect left the business on foot. This suspect is a white male, approximately 6'00" tall, 200 lbs and appears to be approximately 30 years of age. He was wearing blue jeans, a light blue t-shirt and a dark blue baseball cap.

This suspect matches the description of a suspect who robbed the Hot Spot Tanning in Smyrna on July 30, 2011 around 8:50 pm. We also believe that the suspect in these two robberies is the same person who robbed a Smoothie King in Murfreesboro on August 29th around 8:45 pm.

The suspect may also be driving a white, Ford Ranger truck with a missing license plate. The truck may also have a note in the window stating "lost tag."

This suspect should be considered armed and dangerous.

We are hoping someone will recognize this suspect from the attached images. Anyone with information about this suspect or these robberies is requested to contact Detective Joe Monroe of the Smyrna Police Department at (615) 267-5455 or Smyrna Dispatch at (615) 459-6644.

WE NEED YOUR HELP IN LOCATING AN ARMED ROBBERY SUSPECT

From the Smyrna Police Department
On July 30th, around 8:50 pm, an armed robbery occurred at Hot Spot Tanning (307 W. Sam Ridley Pkwy) in Smyrna. A male subject came into the business and told the employee behind the counter that he suggests she empty the cash drawer and he told her he did have a pistol and would use it. The suspect handed the employee a brown, plastic grocery bag and told her to place the money in it. After collecting the bag of money from the employee, the suspect exited the store. The suspect may have left the scene in a white, Ford Ranger with the license plate removed. The suspect vehicle had a note in the rear window of the truck that stated "lost tag."

The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 5' 10" tall, weighing approximately 180 lbs with brown hair. He was wearing glasses, a blue, polo-style shirt with blue jeans, white tennis shoes and a baseball style hat with a dark colored top and a red brim.

We ask that if anyone viewing this video recognizes the suspect or has information about this armed robbery, to please contact Detective Angela Istvanditsch of the Smyrna Police Department at 459-6644.

Music at Ron's

Ron's Tavern at 104 Front Street in Smyrna's historic downtown is just one of many live music establishments that are not well known. Here is a performance by Chris Kempen performing a piece he composed.

The idiocy and joy of youth

I enjoy the memories of my idiot youth when life was full and I broke the rules. You really have not lived until you've awoken in a car in a field and have no idea where you're at...but you know you have one massive damn hangover. Of course many of my greatest achievements were performed in school. If I had been in school when they had zero tolerance policies I might still be there.

I've come across some more local videos of youth at the Smyrna High School with this humble description.
Smyrna High Schools "Freshman Initiation Day" There Was A Huge Mosh Pit In The Back Of The School.
Enjoy

I like the yells of 5.0. when someone spots either a school resource officer, or a smyrna police officer.

The youtube account holder also has 4 more videos titled as "Bathroom Mosh" 1, 2, 3, and 4 and described as "Bathroom Mosh Pit 1 During Freshman Initiation Day at Smyrna High."

Looks like the same fun I had when I was young.

They've paved paradise

Many people have emailed me about my columns, and commented on the growth of Smyrna and the negative aspects of it. Many wish they could stop it, or at least roll it back. Sadly a parking lot is hard to undo and replace with what was there.

New Smyrna community blog

I have decided to post local videos of interest at their own blog. I am surprised at the number of local videos that I find online. So many in fact that they deserve their own blog.

Thus I have created "This is Smyrna TV" as a place to view local videos, podcasts and other multi-media material created and brought to my attention.

We already have a single post couple of posts and it is still bare, but it will grow I hope.
