Bigger and better

As you might have noticed there now is a link to Facebook on the left. Yes, This is Smyrna now has a FaceBook presence and would like you to share this information with your friends. More and more people are moving to other social networking sites, so we need to change along with the times.

See you there and hopefully your friends.

Slow

This blog has been going through a slow period for many reasons. While I try to keep up I found this last month the effort was just too much and slacked off big time.

I'm not sure if it will increase anytime soon so if you are one of the many co-bloggers please step up and post to your hearts desire.

I'm currently broke, ill, hating the heat, trying to go back to school, and purchasing a house all at the same time. I'm pulled in so many directions that even when I find something I think the readers here might like I find it hard to put forth the mental effort to post it for you.

A Smyrna Get-together

The bloggers in the area once in a blue moon get-together to talk and say hi, but it is a rather small tight group.

I'd like to throw an iddea out to ALL readers. If I can convince our intrepid co-blogger that works at a local bowling lane to try to get us a deal I was thinking of having a larger get-together. We have regular readers and I want to try to meet more of you and give you the chance to meet each other.

If we can get about 15 RSVP's I'd love to try to have a "This is Smyrna, TN. " night at the lanes. Leave a note in comments if you feel this would work.

Here, there, and everywhere.

This month the package liquor board of Smyrna had only one application for a store so I feel maybe things will be slowing down. I decided to play with Google/maps and created an interactive map showing all the applications, owners, application dates, and addresses.

Here's "This is Smyrna, TN.'s" first interactive map.

This will give you an idea of their growth, placement, and just general knowledge of the stores. As applications come in I'll update the map.

No weekly update

School has me by the short hairs and I'm hurting for time. Maybe Wednesday if I'm lucky.

New Local blogs

There are some local blogs and family websites that may be new to you that have been added to the sidebar.

Smyrna Tennessee History and stuff is a self titled history blog run by Lori Sellers.

Shayne and Michelle's life is a family website by a local resident.

The Cutting Edge is a local political blog run by Serr8d.
Welcome to the new layout for This is Smyrna, TN.

We will be using the current blogger system of comments for the time being.

If you feel a link has been dropped, or needs added to the right please comment and I will make the correction.

Welcome Depot Day visitors

It's the day after Depot Day festival and I want to welcome all of our new readers to "This is Smyrna, TN", our bit of Smyrna on the web. Mark and I really enjoyed meeting you, and I got the chance to met a lot of new faces.

Here at This is Smyrna, TN. we post on a wide range of subjects from politics to fund raisers to the local farmers market. We try to cover a lot of issues from a different perspective then the local media outlets. We live here so the issues that face our city are important to us.

We are also interactive in that you can comment on the individual posts and maybe even fill in the subject with more information. We invite you to become a part of the Smyrna online community.

Pull up a chair and hang around.

Depot Days

Depot Days is just one day this year, and that leaves me a bit in a quandary.

I went to check out how much a table/booth would be. I have had the idea since I first first heard of depot days of setting up a "This is Smyrna, TN." table. Maybe print some fliers and even make a few t-shirts for sale. Kathy showed me how easy it would be to put some graphics on the shirts.

Regretfully they want $50 dollars a booth. Not a big amount, but I'm short of funds right now, and the timing can not be worse.

Options. Do I ask the rich readers(ha ha) of This is Smyrna, TN. to help fund it, or just walk through the crowds handing out some informational fliers?

Any suggestions? I see Depot Days as a chance to let more people know of this website and other connected web pages, and I don't want to miss the opportunity.

Welcome WGNS listeners

I enjoyed being on the radio with Mike Sparks and guests as they had their broadcast today from the North Rutherford county YMCA here in Smyrna. We talked mainly about technology and how it is changing the way services are brought to you at the local level.

I was able to get our websites name and Internet address mentioned a few times so I hope you have dropped by to find that we can be a resource for you in Smyrna. If you live in LaVergne our sister city website is This is Lavergne, Tn. Also a good resource for your community.

Comments are welcome and if you have something I may be interested in posting please email me from the email link on the top banner.

Thanks for dropping by and welcome to This is Smyrna, Tn.

Website changes

In the next week the visual layout of This is Smyrna, Tn. will be changing some. A new template will be installed, and links on the side column will be changed.

We will be reverting to the Blogger comment system. While it does work the same way as the Haloscan comments, comments made on haloscan will not be brought forward to be viewed on the new system.

While these changes are being introduced, there might be some problems. If you note an issue please email me here with the description so we can work to correct it.

We will also be adding certain services for the community such as advertising space for local businesses to purchase.

Thank you for your patience.

update:
Yikes. Seems the youtube videos have issues with the new blogspot template I picked..or something.

update 2:
retreating to the old template. Seems the youtube videos are still not up. Might be a youtube issue and not a template issue. Very odd.

update 3:
test

update 4:
Now I'm irritated. When I go to the new system, nothing changes, and posts like the picture post above, will not post to the page. May just stay old school and code myself. The new template is hinky and bothersome.
