Being prepared.
The Governor has declared September as National Preparedness month.
With that in mind, and the memory of the great flood last year you might want to go to the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency and see what you might do to prepare for possible problems in the future. Most are as common sense as having some extra canned food set back, some bottled water, medical records in one area if you need to grab and run. A lot of people in Smyrna had to leave and their houses were cut off for days, and poor LaVergne at one point had all roads to it cut off and closed. Being prepared does not cost much, but you can reap great rewards from just a little forethought today.

Grand reopening Oct 30th

After the weight of snow collapsed part of the Smyrna bowling centers roof they had to rebuild. Well Oct 30th is the big re-opening of the center with new lanes and a lot of fun planned by our own Mark Gunn.
Mark gunn 615-220-0902Mark has moved mountains to help plan this event and more. The more is that with this experience and other events he has done he now is starting his own event planning business. Take a bit of time to drop by and get a view of what he can do for you. Details on his business to be posted in the future.

"Raise the Roof"
After 8 months of hard work following the roof collaspe at the Smyrna Bowling Center we are about ready to re-open "This End". The center has been open all this time while we have been working hard to get things back to normal. We have brand new 40 inch flat screen monitors now, new carpet being installed, and a much larger meeting room. October 30th is when we plan to have our grand re-opening of "This End". The event will be a huge event with many vendors outside in the parking lot, while those that come inside will get "One free game and shoes"! I am currently looking for a few more vendors that have something for the young people to do. We are asking that the children come in costume so they can trick or treat outside with our vendors. This is going to be as family event for all!!
Vendors that are attending:
Smyrna Fire Dept.
D.A.R.E
National Guard (rock wall)
P.A.L.
Pony rides
inflatable
Divilla's chocalote
Ron Knight Art
Chris' Gifts
and
much much more
Make plans now to attend this event starting at 11am and running until 6pm on Oct. 30th

UPDATE FROM SMYRNA BOWLING CENTER....
This was posted last night on our website from the new GM Mark Hubbuck:
To all of our extended Smyrna Bowling Family…thanks so much for the thoughts, prayers, comments, and offers to help us during this trying time! Roy & Sue are strengthened by the show of support this community has already given. We are all working very hard to do what we can to reopen as quickly as possible, but this will be a slow process. The damage was quite extensive, and we are still in the beginning stages of repair. Please stay tuned with us as we will give updates every few days to keep all informed.
Our community is such a great one to live in and I know once we reopen everyone will be stopping by to show support. Thanks to all who are concerned.

Smyrna Bowling Lane images
Mark Gunn aquired some more interior shots of the Bowling lanes and it is simply bad.

Credit to Timbo and a mechanic there...maybe the same person. The DNJ has a good write up on the story.
I drove over and took this picture of the backwall and a lot more then just the roof was badly damaged.

A Smyrna Get-together
The bloggers in the area once in a blue moon get-together to talk and say hi, but it is a rather small tight group.
I'd like to throw an iddea out to ALL readers. If I can convince our intrepid co-blogger that works at a local bowling lane to try to get us a deal I was thinking of having a larger get-together. We have regular readers and I want to try to meet more of you and give you the chance to meet each other.
If we can get about 15 RSVP's I'd love to try to have a "This is Smyrna, TN. " night at the lanes. Leave a note in comments if you feel this would work.

Weekend events...
Well Summer is right around the corner but with the weather nice and hot, there is much events going on this weekend. If you notice more traffic than normal this weekend this is why. As most of you know starting on June 11Th it's the annual CMA Music fest in the downtown Nashville area with over 50,000 fans descending on the area. Also gates open at 7am on June 11Th for the biggest party in the south. That's right, it's Bonnaroo time!. Make sure you plan for travel delays if you heading south on I-24 towards Manchester Tn. Also there is another event going on in our great town which is expected to bring about 1,000+ visitors to Smyrna. It's the annual Tn Top 5 YABA bowling tournament over at the Smyrna bowling center. This where the top 5 out of each division from every bowling center in the state are coming into town to compete to see who is the best! We are gearing up now to have over 52 lanes full on Sat and Sun starting at 8am both days! Stop by and show your support for your local bowlers!

Also O'Charleys will be there selling hamburgers and hot dogs for $1.00 each. The airbrush tattoo airtist will be in the cafe selling her famous tattoo's. Stevie J will be doing karaoke and anyone that wants to sing will be able to donate $1.00 to be able to sing. Fund raiser update:

As the month of April comes and goes and we get ready for the month of May, I am working hard on a fund raiser for the Red Cross, Rutherford county chapter. I have secured a dunking machine that is provided by the La Vergne Lions Club, also an airbrush tattoo artist, A d.j. spinning 70's music, Smyrna fire dept will be bringing a firetruck, and our very own congressman Bart Gordon is going to try to attend this event. What I need from the people of Northern Rutherford county is things for donation to the silent auction. I am also needing volunteers to help with getting things together plus help out the day of the fund raiser. anyone want to work the dunking booth would be great too! Our state is known as the Volunteer state so Smyrna and La Vergne step up and lets make this event one to remember. Feel free to comment here or email me at bearroller9640@yahoo.com.
UPDATE: I have now reserved an inflatable from spacewalk of Murfreesboro and they also own Cox martial arts which they are donating a gift cert for 6 months of martial arts class valued at $650. this is a great item for our silent auction!

Congrats to the Smyrna bowling team
After a couple of years not making it to the state tournament the Smyrna bowling team will be attending the high school tournament this week at the Smyrna bowling center. I am so very proud of the teams that made it this year. Candy lindsey and the team did a great job in Soddy Daisy today! If you want to attend the tournament this week please feel free to do so. The TSSAA will be holding this event and they do charge to get in to watch but the charge is well worth the excitement! I know that there will be way over 1000 people watching this event. This event starts on Thursday and runs till Sat and the time is 8am till 4 or 5pm. Get there early if your going to attend because you will have to park somewhere and find a good viewing place. Once again WAY TO GO GANG! Good luck at state!!

Welcome our visitors that are coming!
Well, it's that time of year again and all the businesses are gearing up for the amount of folks coming in for a 3 day event. The event is the TSSAA High school bowling tournament held over at the Smyrna Bowling Center, on Jauary 28th thru January 31st. This event brings around 40 teams of 10 plus all the parents and family members. Working at the bowling center I have grown use to the huge crowds that attend every year. We see about 1000 plus visitors and traffic over at the entrance is terrible! I want to see if anyone in the city wants to donate coupons or meals tickets for free. I am in charge of getting gift bags for all the team members. If your interested in donated for the gift bags please feel free to leave a message here or email me at bearroller9640 at yahoo dot com. Lets all put on our best faces and welcome everyone from all over the state on January 28th thru January 31st.

Vanderbilt bowling in Smyrna.
I found this picture spread of the Vanderbilt bowling team. Seems that they practice here in Smyrna at the Smyrna Bowling Center .
The Smyrna Bowling Center is where the Commodores practice. The center is considered the finest in Middle Tennessee. One of the pictures shows how technologically advanced their computer system is there. The system can set up any combination of pins so you can get practice on the hard sets.
