Drive-by Incident

There was just a drive-by shooting incident near the old downtown. Two shots were fired out the window of a vehicle before it sped off. No one was hurt. The police were on the scene in record time.

Perhaps it'll be in the news tomorrow. Scary stuff - especially since I heard the shots from my house right next door.

Hope they're caught.

Probably just dumb kids if no one was actually being shot at.

I knew it! My neighbor thought I was overreacting. She said if it had been shots, we would have heard sirens shortly thereafter. BTW, it was not just two shots. There were three shots. There was one a few minutes before the two that were fired about the same time.

Yes. I heard the previous shot further away.

And... you were right. The police ran without their lights. All up and down the street. Searched with flashlights.

Did anyone else see a vehicle?

I hesitate to reveal all I know since an investigation is in progress. I didn't see one, though.

Oh, good idea.

I'm game too. I'm friends with a few folks on this end of the street... it wouldn't be too hard to get people together and make introductions, I'm sure.

I have talked with everyone on this end of the street and we are all in the watch. We have to take a stand right now and not let this happen or those get away with this. We have to take back our neighborhoods. I will talk with the officers I know that work 3 rd shift and see what they have are planning to do. they have been watching my house like a hawk since the thugs have spray painted my house.

Somebody's house got spraypainted?! I did not know that. I have been noticing unusual activity in the neighborhood for a few months, though.

Yea my house got spray painted on dec 20th after 10pm at night and the words were vulgal with the letters BP which means Brown Proud and thats a mexican gang.....I am a new home owner in this nice home and now I hve hidden cameras around the house to watch it. I did call the cops and they told me that it was teens with nothing to do....I cleaned it up in 2 days.

If this is in the area near downtown, something's up. I live in Windsor Downs apartments and someone's been going around breaking car windows the last few weeks. I don't know that they're actually taking things, but I've noticed more than a couple of cars around my building with broken windows in the mornings.

Yes. And off Mason Tucker, a whole set of mailboxes were smashed. A friend over there was stunned to see damage all down his street and up the next.

It's worse than I thought. I have little doubt that Sgt. Gibson is correct in saying that we don't have hardcore gangs in Smyrna. The problem is that the wannabes can be just as destructive, and the potential for their behavior to escalate in dangerous ways is everpresent.

This behavior has to be taken seriously, because what these vandals are doing rises far above harmless pranks by bored teens. It is meant to be destructive and menacing. Mark's house is proof enough of that. Had someone's yard been rolled, or yard ornaments been switched, I probably would have chuckled and shook my head. This is not that.

I'm not assuming that the gunshots we heard came from young gang member wannabes. Who knows what that was about? Still, hearing about the vandalism that's happening around here just galvanizes my resolve that we need a serious neighborhood watch.

I now know that there is a problem in the area and Yes I agree we need to have everyone watch for each other. I am going to walked down the street tody and talk with neighbors and see what everyone wants to do.

Right now I have about 9 of us on coleman that want to meet. I come home every morning worried that my home has something wrong with it and I should fear this.

I think a Tuesday or Thursday evening around 7pm would be good to meet up with Sgt Gibson. If this is good for all please comment here and let me know which day and I will call him Monday when I get home from work and set this up. Have a great day and I will be out to meet most of you today!

thanks
