An article in today's Daily News Journal featured two local soldiers who served in Iraq in 2006. They shared information about their service that you don't usually read or hear about in the regular media reports. For example, Capt. Lyn Graves of Smyrna described going into Iraqi villages and handing out candy, school supplies, toys and clothes. He also said election day is huge in Iraq, with entire families going to the polls.
These experiences of our military personnel actually on the ground in the Middle East is a fascinating look into a democracy still in its infancy.
