One loss and one 'change'.

The bad news is that Demos will not be coming to Smyrna...but still might in the future. I got the following letter from Demos
Dear Mr. Miller:
Thank you so much for your interest in a Demos’ Restaurant in Smyrna. We too are disappointed we have to temporarily suspend our plans.

After receiving four bids, we learned that the cost of construction had exceeded our estimates and combined with the cost of the land made it too risky to proceed at this time.

With uncertain economic conditions, the increasing cost of gas and food, an impending minimum wage increase, increasing unemployment taxes and possible income tax increases, we feel we should wait.

We love Smyrna and are very disappointed we will not be locating there at the present time. We will keep the property and hopefully will be able to build sometime in the future when conditions improve.

Thank you again and I hope we will continue to serve you in Murfreesboro, Hendersonville or Lebanon.

Sincerely,

Doris Demos
Well we will have to wait, but the future for Smyrna still might get a Demos.

In other news that says a lot. The news a few months ago was about illegal immigrants working in Smyrna.
Federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents raided at least two businesses owned by restaurant entrepreneur Stanley Wang Tuesday, including Chef Wang's in Murfreesboro and the Famous Chinese Restaurant in Smyrna.
Famous Chinese is at 350 S. Lowry. In new business licenses there is one for the same address.
Famous Chinese Cuisine, Restaurant, 350 S Lowry Street, Smyrna, 37167, Shao Fang Dong
Looks like a name and owner change implies that it soon will open again. Who knows. Online there is only one real hit on Shao Fang Dong, and that is the license list in the Murfreesboro Post.

There we have it. One loss and one change.

Famous Chinese has been open since a few days after the raid. I've been there several times and guessed that there is new ownership since none of the long time workers are there anymore.

Are we still on track for an Applebee's and IHOP? As far as anyone knows.

Interesting that Demos can't afford to build in Smyrna, but they can still afford to build a new restaurant in Florance, Alabama.

If they don't want to come here, don't make up lame excuses when there are 20 other restaurants that have recently opened or are coming to Smyrna. I think they just are afraid they can't compete.
